Workshop On Moisture-Related Durability Issues For Low-Carbon Binder - TC MMS

Scope

The durability of cementitious materials is closely related to their moisture conditions. Many degradation processes, including steel corrosion, frost attack, ASR, carbonation, and sulfate attack, need sufficient water to occur and generate damage. Liquid water movement may carry aggressive agents, such as chloride and sulfate ions, into concrete. Carbon dioxide can diffuse into concrete and cause concrete carbonation if concrete is unsaturated with water. Moisture in conventional OPC binders has been well studied; however, regarding newly developed low-carbon binders, the material characteristics and chemical compositions are different from the conventional binders, which may result in different moisture properties and related durability issues.

At this workshop, we will host leading researchers to provide insight into the latest research advances on the topics of experimental and numerical understanding moisture transport in concrete, moisture fluctuations in carbonated and chloride loaded concrete, the microstructure and chemical composition of the steel-concrete interface, etc. The workshop aims to initiate discussion and inspire new research ideas for addressing the challenges in this area. This workshop is open for early-stage researchers, senior researchers, and engineers, who need to fundamentally understand moisture properties in cementitious materials and related durability issues.
